Isla 🐄

On Friday the 4th of September the year 7 and 8’s went to Dunedin ice staking and curling rink. We went to the ice skating and curling rink because the snow in Tekapo wasn’t very good so we had to cancel the ski trip. Instead, we went to the ice skating and curling rink. First, we went curling. Curling is pretty much like bowls except instead of the jack (white ball) there is a target. I was in a team with Brooke, James, and Markus. I was playing against Mr. Turner, Mrs. Campbell, Will, and Flynn. When we had played about 6 rounds we had dominos for lunch. For the last couple of hours, we when ice skating. At the start, we all weren’t very good but after a while, we all ended up well away from the wall.

On Saturday the 29th of August 2020, our netball team, Kurow Red, played against Twizel in the Twizel Events Centre. Even though we were playing netball we played on a basket ball court. It still had the lines for a netball court but it was the size of a basketball court. The first quater I played as C (Centre). The oppistion C was very fast and I lost her quite alot but found space which made it better. WD (wing defence) was my second quater postion. The wing attack wasn’t very active so it was hard to mark her. When her team had the ball I couldn’t find space or else she would get the ball. But when my team had the ball she was just in the road. I couldn’t run past her to get into space because she was just “stuck to the ground”. For the third quater I played as GA (Goal Attack). I got the ball quite a lot and had a lot of shots at goal but I only got two in. The supporter was my fourth quater postion. I sat on the side line and cheered my team on. Even though we lost 23 – 12 I still really enjoyed the game.

Last week the year 7’s and 8’s went to tech at O.I.S. I was in digi tech. To start off the week, we played around with Tinker Cad. Tinker Cad is a app to design and then print 3-D objects. After a little play around we then designed our own keyring or magenet. I made a keyring for my sister Breana’s birthday. It was green with her name on it. I made it because there are never keyrings with Breana’s name on it if one does it is not spelt properly. It is either spelt like “Breanna, Brianna, Briana or even Bryana!” That took us about two days. One afternoon we made a 60 second song on a app called Sound Trap. The last two days we made robots out of lego and programed them to move, speak and even use sensors to turn around or make a sound. Our first task was to get the robot around a maze. It looked very easy to get around but when you are experincing it it is a lot harder. At the end we just revised on our work.

Do you know what a learning conference is? A learning conference is an interview with your parents, teacher, and yourself. Your teacher tells you and your parents what you need to improve on and what to continue to do. As a student, you will say 2 things that you are proud of and 1 thing you want to improve on.  I really like learning conferences because I will then know what to improve on and what to continue.

This term I am playing 7 a side netball. The positions are: GA – Goal Attack, GD – Goal Defence, GK – Goal Keep, GS – Goal Shoot, WA – Wing Attack, WD – Wing Defence and C – Centre. I have only played one game so far but it was a really good game against Valley Even though we lost 16 – 12. I don’t watch netball on TV but Southern Steel is definitely my favourite team. (No offence to the other teams). My favourite position is Goal Shoot because I really like shooting and I am really good at it. It is also really easy to remember where I can go so I am not offside. GS is only allowed in the shooting third.

I have always wanted to go to the city in Texas called Frisco because of Dude Perfect. I watch Dude Perfect on youtube and have now become a big fan.

Frisco is a city in Texas with a population of about 188,000. Jeff Cheney is the mayor of Frisco and has been for 3 years.

In Frisco, there are lots of places to see/go but I have 2 favourites. The Dude Perfect Head Quarters is one because I really want to meet Dude Perfect. I also would love to go to the Heritage Museum. I have seen many photos of inside but I would love to experience the feeling for myself.

Heritage Museum!!

On the first Sunday of the holidays, my family and I drove 4 hours and 45 minutes to Te Anua. I stayed in a motel for three nights sharing a room with my sister, Breana. We drove to Milford sound and to get there we had to go through the homer tunnel which is 1.2 km long. When we got to Milford sound we went on a boat around the sound and saw 3 seals and heaps of dolphins. (Around 10). We then stayed 1 night in Dunedin and of course, we went to Moana Pool.

During term 2 I have really enjoyed the school singing every Friday afternoon. It has been great for learning new songs. I have made some improvements in writing because I have been writing a lot more and managing my time more wisely. I am really proud of my writing on how much I have improved on and using paragraphs. I also am proud of how well I have helped others when we are using the DRAFT process. I could have done better in my last piece of persuasive writing because I didn’t know what to use for the topic and I wasn’t passionate about it either.

I quite like winter but I like summer more so I am going to give you some of my negatives about winter.

• Winter is so cold.
• Throughout winter frost forms on the ground and it becomes very slippery.
• It is too cold to go swimming and I really like swimming.
• My feet freeze when I walk outside
